Aerobatics and aviation in general includes not only technical details and physical effects directed on aircrafts, but also the bio-physical aspects affecting humans.

There are several types of G-forces in aviation: positive horizontal G-force, positive vertical G-force and negative G-force; the value of g-force is primarily positive +G and negative –G. During the aerobatic flight on the aircraft EXTRA 330LC we reach g-force in the interval from +10G to -10G. What does it mean? There is a gravitation force affecting every object as well as a centrifugal force. In our case we’re interested in the acceleration relative to free-fall, that is constant g=9,81 m/s² (in our latitude).

This g-force is marked with the value of +1G (the weight of the pilot in this case). In simple terms positive G-force during the aerobatic flight is a force pushing the pilot into the seat of the aerobatic aircraft. Therefore, maximum g-force +10G corresponds to a force pushing the pilot into the seat of the aerobatic aircraft amounting 10 times the pilot’s weight. Positive g-force affects the pilot’s body from head to feet. The negative g-force is affecting the pilot in the other direction – pulling him out of the seat of the aerobatic aircraft, affecting the body from feet up. Therefore, negative g-force is the force pulling the pilot out of the seat of the aerobatic aircraft amounting up to 10 times his weight.

For illustration – pilot weighing 80 kg will have actual weight during g-force +10G amounting to 800 kg. The force pushing him into the seat of the aerobatic aircraft will be equivalent to 800kg. The same will apply for the -10G just with the difference pilot will be pulled out of the seat of the aircraft by the force equivalent to 800kg. From the aforementioned it is obvious that pilots of aerobatic aircrafts have to be well trained to manage those values of g-forces.
